National Engineers Week Open House at USC

Engineers and computer scientists innovate, create and solve problems. They work together to make the world better. They are key to our health, safety and happiness. When children and teens get to experience engineering and computer science, they realize how interesting and fun these professions can be. That’s why the National Engineers Week Foundation – and the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) at the University of South Carolina – are dedicated to attracting and cultivating the next generation of engineers and computer scientists.

 

 

 

National Engineers Week, which celebrates professionals in all fields of engineering and computing, is this week! With help from our sponsor URS Corporation, the CEC is hosting an Open House geared toward kindergarten through 12th grade students. Please see attached flyer for additional information.

 

 

 

The Open House will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 10am – 1pm at the Swearingen Engineering Center at 315 Main Street on the USC Columbia campus. The free event will feature dozens of interactive exhibits that highlight the CEC’s programs and research including the following:

 

  • Quadcopters 
  • Fuel cell demonstrations
  • Electric and hybrid vehicles
  • A concrete canoe
  • A cornstarch pool
  • Robots
  • Computer games
  • Segway rides
  • Lab tours
  • Visit from Cocky
