Young Eagles Program

Dear CBCCA Families,
As many of you know, my husband retired from the United States Marine Corps after 22 years of service as an F/A-18 pilot. He loves anything that has to do with aviation and has been a Volunteer Participating Pilot with the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Young Eagles Program. He uses his personal plane and resources to share his expertise and love for flying with others, particularly high school and college students. Another retired Marine pilot, Derrick “Crank” Richardson serves as a volunteer as well. Also, there is a teacher at Battery Creek High School who teaches an aviation course that might be willing to work with homeschoolers as well. There are two programs, Young Eagles for ages 8-17 and Eagle Flights for ages 18-over. This past year, there were over $200,000 in un-awarded scholarships because nobody applied for them. These scholarships are available to high school students as well as college students of all ages. Scholarships are available in the areas of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Science, Aviation, Professional Pilot Programs (to obtain all kinds of ratings), Aviation Programs at technical colleges, and other professional aviation training programs. To apply for scholarships, a student needs to have a membership with EAA, which is free. If this is something you might be interested in, please contact me at tammywaldron@gmail.com. If there is enough interest, Bill will schedule a meeting with more information. He already has registration forms and log books! Go to http://www.eaa.org/en/eaa for more information on EAA and the wonderful programs they offer.

Blessings,
Tammy Waldron
