CBCCA September Meeting

WORKSHOPS BEGIN at 6:30 pm on September 6, 2016

6:30: CBCCA Speech Workshop for moms/dads:  In today’s world, it is vital that Christians rise up as leaders.  One way to encourage our children to lead is by practicing communication skills.
This fall your child will have the opportunity to participate in two CBCCA practice speech events which will offer a variety of speech categories.  One category is “Apologetics”- Pastor Broggi has chosen specific topics for us to train our children in the defense of our faith.
Come join Mark and Sharon Mansell as they share the topics, speech categories and how to teach your children ages 8-18 to present a speech.

7:30: Enhancing Your Child’s Cognitive Abilities: Cognitive skills include brain functions such as auditory and visual processing, working and long-term memory, comprehension, attention, logic and reasoning abilities which are fundamental to a person’s ability to receive, process, retain and apply information.

Come and learn how to strengthen these abilities, which impact job performance, academics, relationships, communication and life skills. It will be a fun introductory time of learning how you can add memory and processing games to your family game night or home school day!

Led by Tammy Waldron and Michele Norman. Please RSVP to tammywaldron@gmail. Having an approximate head count will help us as we prepare.

Refreshments and fellowship provided as well : )

Latin Class Offered

Offering 2 Elementary Latin Courses

Prima Latina

A 30+ week, beginner ecclesiastical Latin course aimed for students in 1st through 4th grades.  This is the very first step in a series of Latin courses published by Memoria Press.  The students are taught five Latin vocabulary words, a Latin phrase, and some grammar each week.  Students will also begin first conjugation, as well as derivatives.  Students seeking this course should look forward to a slow introduction to the Latin language with minimal homework, approximately 10 minutes a day.  This will build the foundation for the next level, Latina Christiana.

With sufficient interest, Prima Latina would be offered once a week for a 1 – 1 ½ hours, depending on the speed of the class.   Each student will need the following items:

  1. Prima Latina Student Book – $15 at memoriapress.com
  2. 2 packages of 3.5 x 5 white index cards – $1 at Walmart
  3. A 70-count sheet spiral notebook – $1 at Walmart
  4. A pencil pouch to hold their index cards (These will become flashcards.)
  5. Pencils with erasers and a handheld sharpener – $2 J

Latina Christiana

Latina Christiana is also a 30+ week, beginner-level Latin course aimed at 3rd through 6th grades.  This course focuses on many of the basics taught in Prima Latina, supported with a growing vocabulary, conjugation, declension, and grammar emphasis.  In this course, students will learn 10 vocabulary words, a Latin saying, and a conjugation or declension each week.   Students will begin discerning between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person and touch on grammar forms such as the subject, verb, direct object, indirect object, and prepositional phrases.  Students taking this course should expect to complete homework in order to memorize and build upon increasing concepts, approximately 20 minutes daily.

Latina Christiana students will need to meet once a week for 1 ½ – 2 hours, depending on the speed of the class.  Each student will need the following items:

  1. Latina Christiana Student Book – $16 at memoriapress.com
  2. Latina Christiana 1 Review Worksheets – $14.95 at memoriapress.com
  3. A 70-count sheet spiral notebook – $1 at Walmart
  4. A pencil pouch to hold their index cards (These will become flashcards.)
  5. Pencils with erasers and a handheld sharpener – $2 J
  6. 4 packages of 3.5 x 5 white index cards – $2 at Walmart

Cost

If there is enough interest, each course will be offered at $40/month.  Please keep in mind this is a commitment of the student’s time and your resources.  If a couple of lessons are missed, it is difficult for the student to catch up without you teaching him/her. This is often frustrating to the student and parent.

Though not required, you are welcome to purchase the listening CD for the appropriate course at memoriapress.com.
