SANFORD ANNOUNCES PARTICIPATION IN
CONGRESSIONAL APP CHALLENGE

WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Mark Sanford’s office announced today that the First Congressional District will be participating in the second annual Congressional App Challenge (CAC), an app competition for high school students. This competition is a nationwide event intended to engage students’ creativity and encourage their participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields.

The Challenge submission period runs from today, November 9, 2015, through January 15, 2016. Winners will be selected by a panel of local judges, and Congressman Sanford will announce the winner in February 2016. The winning apps will be featured on a digital display in the Capitol building.

Lowcountry Wind Symphony

The Lowcountry Wind Symphony is a community band based in Beaufort looking for musicians interested in performing traditional wind band literature to include Traditional Wind Band Music, Transcriptions, American Show tunes, Movie Music, Great American Marches of Sousa, Fillmore, Osterling, Bagley, Alford, and Modern works by Melillo, Whitacre, Davis, Smith, Sheldon and others.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

with information on financial aid for college

EDITOR’S NOTE: This news release originally went out last month, but feel free to run a reminder notice. Students and parents were notified through their individual high schools.

BEAUFORT – The Beaufort County School District is sponsoring a pair of free workshops for parents on how to help finance their children’s college educations.

The primary target audience is parents of high school seniors and juniors. More than 400 parents attended last year’s sessions.

The first workshop will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Hilton Head Island High School from 6-7 p.m. An identical workshop will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5at Beaufort High School, also from 6-7 p.m.

Presenters will include representatives from the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, the South Carolina Tuition Grants Commission, the University of South Carolina at Beaufort, the Technical College of the Lowcountry, South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, Scholarships for Military Families, the Community Foundation of the Lowcountry and Vocational Rehabilitation, Scholarships and Grants.

Presenters will cover the basics of applying for financial aid, including FAFSA and the CSS Profile. Information also will be presented on local, state and national grants, loans and scholarship opportunities.

SKATEFEST 2015

WHEN: December 17, 2015 @ 10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Savannah Civic Center
COST: $5.00 per skater, bystanders free

Email coxfamsc@gmail.com with number of skaters and non-skaters in order to reserve your spot.

DETAILS:
#1 – Please arrive 15 minutes early, our session starts at 10:00 sharp.
#2 – Parking is free for Skatefest participants.
#3 – We are limited to 150 skaters, payment due by DEC 9th to Charles Cox, and/or drop off to Laura at the front desk at church.
#4 – There is another small group with our session.
#5 Don’t forget to wear socks and dress warm.
