Sports Participation Requirements for Homeschoolers – Beaufort County Schools

*** Football, swimming, volleyball, competitive cheerleading, girls tennis and cross country all have a first practice date of July 27th. Because this is just going into effect, the ten day prior requirement will be relaxed for the above sports, but the forms need to be turned in as soon as possible before the first practice.

First practice dates for the 2012-2013 school year for high school sports in SC are available here: http://schsl.org/2012Forms/sportcalendar12-13.pdf

You must complete the Interscholastic Activity Participation Application and Permission Form for Home School Students and bring that along with the documentation below to the Student Services Department at the Beaufort County School District – 2900 Mink Point Boulevard Beaufort, SC 29902.

Application serves as notice of a student’s intent to participate. The district is requiring that this information is turned in (10) ten days before the first practice in order to confirm each student’s eligibility.

1. Proof of residency. One of each of the following:

a) Driver’s License or government issued photo ID

b) A current major utility bill (electric, gas, water)

C) Current lease, property tax notice or mortgage statement – if not available, a second major utility bill may be submitted

3. Proof of vaccinations and immunizations as required by SC Code 44-29-180

4. Student Physical Examination/Parent Permission Form – completed, signed (once per year) – Working on getting a copy of this

5. Student Athletic Insurance Fee (As applicable) – This is currently included for all students according to Mr. McCord (Beaufort County Student Services Officer). But in the future it may be something that will be additional.

6. Risk Acknowledgement Form – completed, signed – one time for the entire school career

7. State Certified Copy of Student’s Birth Certificate – (will be returned to student – one time for the entire school career)

Although not everyone will want to take advantage of this opportunity, we are very grateful that homeschooled students will now have this opportunity. We are excited and hope that we will be a blessing to our community schools and assets to the athletic programs.
