Does your student need Algebra 1?
From Charlotte Cushman –
Algebra 1 Class available ~ August 14th – April 30th – 34 weeks
Mondays 11 am – 1 pm ~ 3-5 lessons per week for a total of 120 lessons.
Cost is $60.00 per month August – April.
If you are interested contact me at charlottecushman@gmail.com.
Overview
The goal of this class is to give students confidence that they can do well in Algebra. I also want to make sure students don’t feel left behind in class. Although we work hard, we also have fun and I incorporate games and friendly competition into lessons. Also there is generally chocolate involved.
Teaching and Review of concepts
I explain the lesson and we will talk about it. I will show the students how to work out an example problem on the board. Then I will give them similar problems to work out on their own (each student has an individual wipe board).
Practice
After each student demonstrates understanding, they will do practice problems. When each student can correctly do the practice problems, I have them do the problems from the lesson.
Standardized test practice
Class ends with standardized testing practice and practice problems and possibly chocolate.
Algebra 1/2 Class Available Mondays Beginning August 14th

Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 & Algebra 2 Available
Hello everyone –
My name is Charlotte Cushman. The upcoming school year will be my 18th year homeschooling.
Some of you may have been where I was 8 years ago! I had a 15 year old who needed Algebra, but also had kids aged 9, 8, 6, 4, 2 and was pregnant with number 7! I was homeschooling medium and young ones while still dealing with preschoolers and toddlers and generally running around crazy with six kids and five of them under 10! Higher math loomed ominously ahead. I needed help and enlisted a tutor and it saved the day.
Since then, I have gone back to school and am currently finishing my teaching degree. I found that math is a challenging subject that I really like to teach. I opened my home last year to a small number of students that were my own kids ages. We met weekly to work through the Saxon curriculum. It was amazing how much everyone learned! So my thought is that I can be helpful to some of you who are where I was 8 years ago.
I will be tutoring pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 for my own children during the 2017-2018 school year. I have to teach them anyway – so I would like to open this up to you as well. I have availability for a few more students in each class.
Saxon Algebra II – 5 seats available
Saxon Algebra 1 – 4 seats available
Saxon Algebra 1/2 – 3 seats available
A typical class will go as follows –
Review of concepts
I explain the lesson and we will talk about it. I will show the students how to work out an example problem on the board. Then I will give them similar problems to work out on their own (each student has an individual wipe board). Because there are more than one student, they will generally compete to see who can get the correct answer first.
Practice concepts
After each student demonstrates understanding, they will do practice problems. When each student can correctly do the practice problems, I have them do the problems from the lesson.
Standardized testing practice
Class ends with standardized testing practice and practice problems.
We will meet on Mondays for two and half hours. The class will meet in my home in Port Royal. We will go over 3-5 lessons per week for a total of 123-129 (depending on the course) lessons over the course of 34 weeks. Students will be responsible for completing assigned practice sets in a timely manner.
I do not check homework, administer tests or assign grades. I will expect all of their work to be checked prior to class beginning on Monday so we can go over problem areas.
Classes will cost $60.00 per month August – April. This includes 2 hours and 30 minutes of class time per week for 34 weeks. We will take a long break during the Christmas holidays.

Planner Pages
I created a planner page for myself that I really like. I wanted to share it with you all. This is a pdf. You can look at the “sample” to see how I use it. I hand write the assignments so the only things that are typed are constants.
I did fill in the menu and some of the weekly to do list as a sample.
Sample of how it is used here – planner-page-sample
