UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

From Michele Norman:

Dear Friends,

I just got an e-alert from HSLDA (Homeschool Legal Defense Association) about the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).  The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilitiessurrenders U.S. sovereignty to unelected U.N. bureaucrats, and will threaten parental decision making for children with disabilities.   If you want to know more, follow the link: http://www.hslda.org/LandingPages/crpd/index.html.

I called Senator Graham’s office to ask him to vote against it (Senator DeMint has already voiced his disapproval) and Graham’s aide told me HE WAS GOING TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF THE RATIFICATION OF THE TREATY! Harry Reed is trying to get the treaty ratified during the lame duck session.  The senate is to vote on this tomorrow, Wednesday, November 28th.

I am especially appalled by this treaty as it will take away the parental rights of disabled children to determine what they deem best for their children versus what the bureaucrats of the UN deem best.  We have a disabled daughter with autism and have throughout her schooling years educated her at home, in the public school and in a private Christian school.  My husband and I were the ones who decided when and where we thought the best fit was for her at that time.  We would not have wanted to have bureaucrats who look at statistics and who have a godless agenda dictating where we would have had to educate her or where she will be forced to live after we die.

Here in America, we already have laws to protect disabled people called the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  We do not need the UN dictating to us.

Please flood Lindsay Graham’s office with phone calls!  (202-224-5972).   We do not need our liberal Republican senator to vote against the most helpless among us.

Give them some or all of this message:

“I urge you to oppose the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This treaty surrenders U.S.sovereignty to unelected UN bureaucrats and will threaten parental care of children with disabilities. Our nation already has laws to protect disabled Americans. This treaty is unnecessary and will hurt families. If the Senate ratifies this treaty, it would be the first time ever that the U.S. has ratified a treaty that obligates us to recognize economic, social, and cultural entitlements as rights under domestic law.”   (From the HSLDA website)

Thank you,

South Carolina TeenPact State Class

From Michele Norman:

Sign up by this Friday, November 30th for the best price of the season for the One Day (8-12 year olds) South Carolina TeenPact State Class!!

Dear Concerned Parents and Students,

The government doesn’t just impact adults. It impacts the whole family—teens and children alike. This means that young people (no matter how young) have just as much responsibility, and as much capability, to have a voice in their local government as do those old enough to vote. TeenPact’s One Day State Class for 8-12 year olds gives young people the tools and training to do just that—get involved to make a difference!

The One Day Class takes elements from our week-long government class for teenagers and condenses them into one action-packed, exciting day for elementary students. They will become Senators in a mock legislature where they discuss bills that they have written themselves, pray for their leaders during a prayer walk, watch a skit about the legislative process, and discover the South Carolina state capitol building by going on a scavenger hunt. These and many more hands-on, on-site activities  will help students understand their state government as well as the role of Christians in politics.

Taught by a caring staff team, this class is designed for parents and children to attend together, with no extra charge for the parent. The enthusiastic and encouraging atmosphere will make this a class that you won’t soon forget!

Please join us at the South Carolina State Capitol on April 19th or April 26th from 10am-4pm.  This month, we’re excited to offer the Founder’s Five discount.  All students that sign up for the One Day Class by November 30th will receive the early bird discount PLUS an additional $5 dollars off tuition in honor of TeenPact founder Tim Echols’ birthday!  Visit teenpact.com/SouthCarolina to learn more and register!

Sincerely,

Beth Baxa

P.S.

If you know someone who would love to attend the Four Day State Class consider giving them a gift certificate this Christmas! Sign up  ASAP as classes are filling up! See below.

GIVE THE GIFT OF LEADERSHIP

This year, we’re encouraging people to give the gift of leadership for Christmas by giving gift certificates toward TeenPact classes.  You can read more details at teenpact.com/store/giftcertificates; essentially, someone can now purchase a gift certificate to any part of the state classes, or can enter their own amount if they would prefer.  Once they make their purchase, they will receive a certificate via email to print and give as a gift.  This is another way to promote TeenPact to students, parents, grandparents, friends, etc.
