Homeschool Group Riding Lessons

ANYONE in K-12 grades interested in using horseback for P.E. ?? The following information is from Mrs. O’Leary at Deep Sigh Horse Farm in Lobeco. We have had 2 successful years as a homeschool group riding with Barb, and have really enjoyed it. It is open to anyone in k – 12th grade, you do not have to be a part of CBCCA to participate. If you are interested please come to Deep Sigh Horse Farm on Aug 30 @ 11! Hope everyone has a SUPER schoolyear!

Ok….Here we go…..

WE will be doing Home school as a PE for the new school year You can choose from these days and times. Wednesday 10- 12 , Thursday 10-12, or Friday 10-12….

I will only be accepting 6- 8 riders per session maximum.

Beginner 1 first Wednesday Starting Sept 5th,

Thursday Beginner level 2 Sept 6,

Friday Beginner level 3 – intermediate Sept 7th

Following week will be Intermediate to advanced riders Wed, Thursday, Friday 10-12 .

Each group will meet 2 x per month. Fee is $18.00 per student per lesson, Prepaid the first of each month.

Description of Skill levels:

Beginner level 1, Rider has little or no independent riding skills. Rider can sit on a horse with out assistance. General Age 5-8 years old.

Beginner level 2, Has had some independent riding. Can walk, stop and change direction with out assistance of a handler, can sit trot or post trot. Ages 7- 12

Beginner level 3 Can effectively complete a serpentine pattern, change of direction and maintain 2 point position or ride with out stirrups. Is able to sit trot and or post trot.

Intermediate riders : Can effectively control a horse while trotting, either sitting or posting. Can maintain gait and change direction with out slowing down. Can stop from the trot and walk

Advanced riders: Is comfortable at either the walk trot or canter and can change directions and speed with out loss of control. Understands the use of aides.

We will meet Thursday at 11:00 August 30th to complete enrollment packets and do our orientation.

Please email me with your child’s name age and skill level based on descriptions above.

I will assess each child individually if they are new to our program on the 30th.

Sports Participation Requirements for Homeschoolers – Beaufort County Schools

*** Football, swimming, volleyball, competitive cheerleading, girls tennis and cross country all have a first practice date of July 27th. Because this is just going into effect, the ten day prior requirement will be relaxed for the above sports, but the forms need to be turned in as soon as possible before the first practice.

You must complete the Interscholastic Activity Participation Application and Permission Form for Home School Students and bring that along with the documentation below to the Student Services Department at the Beaufort County School District – 2900 Mink Point Boulevard Beaufort, SC 29902.

Application serves as notice of a student’s intent to participate. The district is requiring that this information is turned in (10) ten days before the first practice in order to confirm each student’s eligibility.

1. Proof of residency. One of each of the following:

a) Driver’s License or government issued photo ID

b) A current major utility bill (electric, gas, water)

C) Current lease, property tax notice or mortgage statement – if not available, a second major utility bill may be submitted

3. Proof of vaccinations and immunizations as required by SC Code 44-29-180

4. Student Physical Examination/Parent Permission Form – completed, signed (once per year) – Working on getting a copy of this

5. Student Athletic Insurance Fee (As applicable) – This is currently included for all students according to Mr. McCord (Beaufort County Student Services Officer). But in the future it may be something that will be additional.

6. Risk Acknowledgement Form – completed, signed – one time for the entire school career

7. State Certified Copy of Student’s Birth Certificate – (will be returned to student – one time for the entire school career)

Although not everyone will want to take advantage of this opportunity, we are very grateful that homeschooled students will now have this opportunity. We are excited and hope that we will be a blessing to our community schools and assets to the athletic programs.
