Teacher Training Tuesday & Yearbook Coordinator Needed

From Megan –

Teacher Training THIS Tuesday Oct 2nd 7pm, World Missions Cafe!
If you would like to bring a potluck snack to share please feel free and arrive a few minutes before 7.  Thanks 🙂
Our Teacher Training this time is going to be all Elementary, Middle and High School Students together.  We will be talking about “How to Incorporate Learning Centers in your Home School”  You might think this is just for the younger ones, but after much prayer on the subject as how to present this topic I felt God’s leading to share how these things can help in your home school with older children as well.  I will also be sharing a little on how you can use these Centers to help encourage smaller children in alone play or in one on one play with another sibling or how an older sibling can use them to teach a younger one.  Hopefully it might give some insight as to how to home school with little ones as well! 🙂  We will be doing “How to Help Your Student successful in the High School Years” toward the end of the school year.  Unless God otherwise leads. 🙂
I will also have a small questionnaire if you would fill out so we can know a little bit more about where you as the parents of CBCCA would like to see us grow, do, etc…
See you Tuesday night! 🙂
Yearbook Coordinator:
We are still looking for 1 or more moms to help coordinate our yearbook!  If you feel led please contact me at meganshytle03@gmail.com or call/text me at 843/575-5731! 🙂

The prices for the cap, gown and tassel are listed below. Everyone will need to purchase a tassel for the year 2013 but not everyone will need to purchase a cap and gown. There are at least 4 gowns and a cap in the closet at church. If you are interested in borrowing one of them please contact Claudia as soon as possible. Others of you may want to borrow from another family in our church. Please let me know what you want me to order as soon as possible even if it is only a tassel. If you are ordering a gown I will also need to know the height of your son or daughter. I am not sure what the arrangements will be for pictures this year but I do know it is early in the year and the cap, gown and tassel is an important part. If you can let me know no later than Wednesday, Sept. 26 so I can order the gowns. I will need the money before I place the order so I will let you know the date as soon as I set it. Welcome to the new CBCCA Homeschooling Blog!

Welcome to the new CBCCA Homeschooling Blog!

This is a place to make homeschooling announcements, share information, encourage others in their homeschooling efforts, buy and sell curriculum and generally help each other out!

Please feel free to email me at charlottecushman@gmail.com with your announcements.

Remember that this is a public forum, so anything that you do not want communicated over the web is not appropriate for this site.

Our heart is to reach out to our community and offer resources, encouragement and help to those who homeschool or who are interested in homeschooling.  Our efforts are from a Christian perspective and we do reserve to the right not to publish anything that we feel will interfere with the message of the Gospel. However, you do not need to be a member of the CBCCA Umbrella in order to participate here. We welcome you!

Some information about our homeschooling group –

Community Bible Church Christian Academy is a legal umbrella that allows members of of Community Bible Church to homeschool legally in South Carolina using the third option.CBCCA is an third option association that is open only to families who have at  least one parent who is an active member of CBC.

Although CBCCA itself is a legal umbrella, please know that we have many homeschooling activities including support meetings, park days, co-op and a homeschooling conference that are open to anyone in our homeschooling community.

We highly encourage homeschooling moms to join us at Woman’s Life, our women’s ministry that meets twice a month during the school year. We have a wonderful children’s program that is geared both to preschool and homeschooled students! It also offers the Presidential Challenge Program!

Also if you are not eligible for our legal umbrella Carolina Homeschooler is a great resource for finding other option 3 associations to participate in.

Below are three options for Homeschoolers in SC.

Option 1 : Establish and operate a home school as approved by the local school board. 180 days per year, 4½ hours per day. Reading, writing, math, science, and social studies; also composition and literature in grades 7-12. High school diploma or GED or a baccalaureate degree. Maintain evidence of regular instruction including a record of subjects taught, activities in which the student and parent engage, a portfolio of the child’s work, and a record of academic evaluations, with a semiannual progress report. Participate in the annual statewide testing program and the Basic Skills Assessment Program.

Option 2: Establish and operate a home school under the membership auspices of the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools (SCAIHS). 180 days per year. Reading, writing, math, science, and social studies; also composition and literature in grades 7-12. High school diploma or GED. None required by statute; SCAIHS requires some recordkeeping. None required by statute; SCAIHS has certain testing requirements.

Option 3: (CBCCA falls into this category) Establish and operate a home school under the membership auspices of an association for home schools with no fewer than fifty members. 180 days per year. Reading, writing, math, science, and social studies; also composition and literature in grades 7-12. High school diploma or GED.
