Talking Books Services
From Tammy Waldron:
I didn’t get to mention at last night’s meeting about the Talking Books Services that is available through the SC State Library. I have been utilizing this service for about seven years now. For qualified applicants, the library will send a machine free of charge that the student can use to listen to books on audio. The machine has a feature that allows the student to regulate the speed of the reader, which makes it nice if they are following along in a hard copy. I have been able to find many of the books that I included in my curriculum through this service. They have a large selection of books. For dyslexia, the parent needs to have a MD’s signature for the application. My MD was so nice and had no problem signing for us. I will post more on a service for college textbooks in another post. Here is a link to the FAQ about Talking Books Services and then you can download the application:

Here’s what TeenPact students are saying…
“One of the ways that TeenPact changed my life is it showed me that it doesn’t matter if you’re talented in public speaking or you like dressing up in a suit and tie or a skirt and heels, God wants to use you to change the world. We don’t have to be qualified because as long as we’re letting Christ work through our lives, we’re what He wants to use.” –Laura Shervheim, IA
“TeenPact has changed my life so much more than any other program like it has. It’s taught me how to be a Christian leader for my family, my peers, and my community.” – Jordan DuBaere, MI
“TeenPact has made me aware of the importance of being involved in politics, and has really convicted me to constantly evaluate my walk with God.TeenPact asks me to face difficult questions like, “Have I really dedicated my life to Christ?” “Am I striving to further the kingdom of God?”—-it implores me to flee from the complacency that plagues my generation.” –Sarah Hufstedler, TX
“TeenPact has opened my eyes to the fact that there are young people who think and believe as I do out there in the world.” –Shelby Zmudzinski, WY
“TeenPact has raised me to a totally new standard of living. It showed me how I can impact a normally all too corrupt thing, government. But the learning of Government only scratches the surface of what TeenPact has done for me, it gave me better critical thinking skills, public speaking capabilities, and showed me how to step out of my comfort zone and change the world we live in. But most importantly, it gave me a closer relationship with, Christ.” –Stevie Leifheit, ME
“TeenPact has inspired me to strive for a level of personal excellence in all areas of my life. Because of TeenPact, I have stepped outside of my comfort zone and become a better leader, citizen, and servant of Jesus Christ.” –Courtney Bledsoe, AZ
“TeenPact has truly blessed my life in many ways, through TeenPact I have learned, grown, made wonderful friends and forged great relationships, had fun, worshiped God, served, lead, stretched my comfort zone, and most importantly God has used TeenPact to truly bless my relationship with Him and give me a closer walk with Him.” – Abigail Shackleford, AR

Civil Air Patrol – United States Air Force Auxiliary
From Gay McNair:
Event: Information & Applications for a New Civil Air Patrol Beaufort Composite Squadron
Location: Battery Creek High School Aerospace Education Department
Date: Thursday, 26 September 2013
Time: 5:30 pm – 7:00
The purpose of this meeting is to gain information on helping us stand up a LOCAL
Civil Air Patrol Beaufort Composite Squadron, We need your help in doing this!
The meeting will share WHAT Civil Air Patrol is and what your child(ren), ages 12 and up,
can gain from this amazing program….
The benefits are unmeasurable.
-Three primary mission areas are: aerospace education, cadet programs, and emergency services.
-Character training
-The ability to enlist, into any branch of the military, with advanced E-3 placement (upon completion of specific C.A.P. rank)
-Scholarship possibilities, focused on the Military Academies
-Flight hours
-Physical training
-Drill
-so much more…
Your child will get out of C.A.P. what they are willing to invest into the program so it is a move
at their pace program that encourages your child to push themselves to a higher level. This
program is a United States Air Force program that encourages your children to enter ANY branch of
the military, not just the Air Force. So please, do not let that hinder your Marine/Navy/Army mind sets. Use this
Air Force sponsored tool to achieve your aviation goals!
Aviation is a HUGE part of our community!
The field of aviation is growing leaps and bounds here in Beaufort.
We are blessed to have several individuals that are willing to volunteer their time to come along side our children, to
educate them in this amazing field.
Aviation has MANY job opportunities, not just flying, but
ground teams, mechanical, engineering, electronics… the list is long! Come join us to find out
if aviation is something your child(ren) have an interest in. Parents, give your children the tools
they need to succeed in aviation education!
We would love to answer any questions you may have about C.A.P. so please
mark your calendars for this Thursday night and join us for this informative meeting!

Above is the link to Civil Air Patrol for you to look around at the history and purpose of such
a wonderful program. We ask that if you want to join C.A.P. that you contact one of us because
we are actively standing up our local squadron and our location will not be updated on the webpage
until we have enough enrollments to make our squadron official.
Please help us get the word out and invite anyone you feel would be interested in Civil Air Patrol!
THANK YOU,
Hollie Struxness
SC AQUARIUM UPDATE
From Charlies Cox:
- I’m purchasing our tickets on SEP 27 and turning in the roster, please let me know if you want to attend byFriday morning. So far I have 70 students and 40 adults!
- Please let me know if you are not an active member of CBCCA, as I will need to collect cash for your tickets please
- If you miss the deadline, you can still go on the trip, they won’t guarantee the discounted price however.
- Please be on time, and in line, by noon, Friday, OCT 4, parking is across the street at the parking garage, however, you can drop off at the front and then go park. There is also metered parking on the street if you think you can get lucky!
- Don’t forget to download your grade specific scavenger hunt from the SC Aquarium website, under Homeschooling/Education.
- Clarification on the extra exhibits (Sea Turtles and 4D theatre): I was under the impression that we could individually add these items on, but unfortunately, we need 100% participation for the discounted rate, so if you wanted to do these exhibits, you would have to call and make your own reservations and pay the full price, sorry
-
The contract that I signed for our group indicates that we must adhere to certain rules. Although it was mostly common sense, I wanted to emphasize a few things: #1-This is going to be a large group and we are there representing CBCCA and other homeschoolers #2 – They don’t want any children harassing any of the animals, such as, tapping on the windows of the exhibits, etc. #3 – Please don’t allow the little kids to run around and be noisy #4 – Kids must stay with the Chaperones at all times, thank you
-
Once we are inside, it’s not necessary for us to stay together as a big group. Feel free to go at your own pace, and enjoy the Aquarium, they close at 5 pm
