Hey all… There are several families that will be taking Marine Biology this year. I wanted to see if there is an interest in all of us doing labs together and maybe, if you feel somewhat qualified, to lead them. We will all do our modules at home but get together for labs. If your interested let me know please. Thanks, Sue

This is the jist of it….. Every child is $10 for the year, this gives them a tshirt, county and state 4H membership. I have the forms to fill out. We will be starting our own group. Any parents that would like to volunteer I have volunteer forms and background check forms for you to fill outnts are free. What the club will consist of is 6 classes, 1 time a month through out the school year. I have the book that the lessons come out of. We can take turns teaching a lesson if we would like and we can meet where ever convient. As far as taking animals to fair that will come a little later in the year and the students will join up w/ which ever group of animals they want to present. I will explain that better later. I will have the forms to give w/ me from here on out, but will have a table at the CBCCA meeting too.
Science Field study programs offered by Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute
FYI from Claudia –
Hello,
My name is Jenifer Gammon and I spoke with you back in the spring about Science Field study programs offered by Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute. I just wanted to send a reminder e-mail about our programs and offer my name and phone number if you had any questions concerning the camps. I’m more than happy to come to your schools and visit if needed also!
We run three different camps at my site, Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton, SC; Teaching KATE, E-Tech, and LEAD.
– Teaching KATE – Environmental Sciences
Teaching Kids About The Environment is a three-day residential, interdisciplinary, hands-on learning experience for students from grade three through grade eight. The academically-based classes in forestry, soils, water ecology and wildlife resources make up the backbone of the program. Instructors guide the students to a greater understanding of the natural world and the inter-relationships between the four areas of study. Teaching KATE was developed by YLI and the Coalition for Natural Resources, and is endorsed by the S.C. Department of Education and is held at RM Cooper 4-H Leadership Center in Summerton, SC.
– E-Tech – Technology/Science
E-Tech is a three-day residential, hands-on learning experience for students from grade three through grade eight. The program combines environmental science with technology. Students learn about soil, water, birding and forestry while incorporating the use of technology such as digital cameras and global positioning systems. Students then use a state-of-the-art computer lab to chart, graph and research their data with various software applications.
– LEAD – Adventure & Experiential Science
Leadership Education through Adventure Discovery or LEAD is a three-day residential, hands-on learning experience for students from grade five through grade twelve. The program offers students an experiential science and natural resources curriculum combined with adventure and leadership activities. This program is completely customizable with activity options that include high and low ropes elements, climbing, zip lining, canoeing and hiking.
The cost per student is $105.00. That includes housing and food and activities. The cost per chaperone is $50.00. If you would like more information you can go to our website; www.clemson.edu/yli and go to the Outdoor Education page.

Civic Literacy Course from HSDLA
FYI Civic Literacy Course from HSDLA
The Home School Legal Defense Association is proud to announce our newest civic literacy course, iCitizen! Developed by Generation Joshua, a department of HSLDA, iCitizen will equip your student with the political and historical knowledge every American needs to be an educated and engaged citizen.
The course highlights the purpose of the Constitution, the structure of America’s government economic system, the role of American diplomacy, expressions of patriotism, and provides an introduction to American parties and politics. Perfect as a half-credit, stand-alone civics course, iCitizen is also excellent preparation for accelerated middle school students, or for freshmen and sophomores planning to take advanced American government courses during their upperclassmen years.
iCitizen provides online testing and opportunities for customization to your family and child’s needs. Included with the course are suggested teaching plans, ranging anywhere from student directed self-study to intensive instructor involvement, with discussion questions, suggested essay topics and supplemental resources.
Here’s what people are saying about iCitizen:
“We highly recommend iCitizen to give your teen a thorough, working knowledge of our system of government and his or her role as a US citizen. The course is a wonderful lead-in to studying American government in depth.”—Diane Kummer, High School Consultant
Don’t miss this opportunity to train your student in responsible American citizenship! Your iCitizenpurchase features 1-year access to all online resources and quizzes for only $40 ($30 for HSLDA members).
