Upward Sports Need (PTL: THIS NEED HAS BEEN MET!!!)

Upward Sports is a huge ministry and a wonderful outreach to Beaufort County children, many who are unchurched. The ministry has a need, so we are reaching out to our homeschool community to see if anyone can help.

Part of the Upward Sports day is providing snacks and drinks for athletes and their families. We have a need for a refrigerator to store and cool the drinks; maybe you have recently upgraded and have an extra one in the garage? it doesn’t have to be new or fancy, just in working order.

If you can help with this need, please contact Viktor Vitiuk at (843) 592-1275 or cbcupwardsports@gmail.com

Swimming Lessons for Summer!

Amy KuehlTue, Apr 4, 2:47 PM (17 hours ago)
to me
From Amy –

I was wondering if any families were interested in getting the kids ready for summer with swim practice and races. Here’s what I was thinking:

  • A parent will volunteer to preview and then email a swim video for us to watch each week (beginner and intermediate based on needs) – 4 total
  • A parent will volunteer to be in the pool to demonstrate the stroke, work with the kids and organize races
  • Meet at the Battery Creek indoor pool every Tuesday in May from 2:30pm to 3:30pm to practice the stroke and let the kids race.

We would need parents to volunteer to send the video and be in the pool that week with the students. Depending on the interest, we could have 2 levels.

I already contacted the pool and they said this would be an ideal time. Parents would need to fill out all of the forms and pay per visit  ($4) or get a 4 person family membership for a month ($40 add $5 for each additional family member per month).

Please respond with:

  • Parent’s Name
  • Name of Child(ren)
  • Age of Child(ren)
  • Swim Level of Child(ren): Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
  • How you would be able to help (send video, be in the water, how many weeks you would like to help)

to Amy Kuehl at: secretthingsbttl@gmail.com if you are interested.

REMINDER…TONIGHT!!!!!

EggStravaganza help needed!

Hey Moms,
If your teen is available and would like to help at the eggstravaganza, April 8, we could use help with at couple of game areas, jumpers, the fishing hole and the duck pond. A couple of these areas are perfect for our younger teens. Mr. Randy would appreciate a little more help at 8:30 for set up if any teen boys available for that time. Thank you for passing this info on to your teen. There are a few 30 minute slots open for anyone wishing to help man a jumper. Thanks for your help! Evelyn

The American College of the Building Arts

We are currently visiting high schools, and hosting field trips and I wanted to reach out to your groups and tell you more about our college. The American College of the Building Arts is an accredited, small non-profit college located in Charleston, SC that offers a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in six craft specializations:

Architectural Carpentry
Architectural Stone Carving
Blacksmithing
Classical Architecture & Design
Plaster
Timber Framing

ACBA focuses on preservation and educating skilled artisans by offering a program that combines the skilled trades with a Liberal Arts education. Here are some cool recent student highlights:

An Architectural Carpentry senior went on externship this summer at George Washington’s Mount Vernon and he was offered a full-time position upon graduation
Another Architectural Carpentry spent his externship working for the National Park Service in the White House Oval Office
A Plaster student spent this summer’s externship working on the Shubert Theatre on Broadway in Times Square
An Architectural Stone Carving graduate just accepted a full-time position working at the U.S. Capitol
Two of our Blacksmithing students (2nd and 3rd year students) were selected to collaborate with internationally acclaimed artist Fred Wilson to complete a monumental piece of ironwork sculpture featured at the Gibbes Museum of Art
A Timber Framing graduate was offered a full-time position working for Altibois in Goisy, France
We also have several students that complete externships internationally. This summer we had students in Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and Canada.
Our Open Houses are always on Saturdays, 9:00-12:00 pm that allows prospective students to meet current students and faculty and watch (and sometimes participate in) demos in the shops.

Upcoming Open House: April 22

We’ve been featured on This Old House, PBS News Hour, and most recently on SC ETV. Videos are linked and featured on our website: http://www.acba.edu, and our college instagram (@acba_charleston) documents all of the cool things our students are currently working on!

We would love the opportunity to connect with you. Please let me know if you’d like more information or have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Love to cook?

CBC’s Mercy Ministry is looking for volunteers who would be willing to make a meal periodically (usually once or twice in a three month period) for those in special need. This would be a wonderful ministry for a family, especially with older children who love to cook and perhaps are learning homemaking skills. I can attest as a recipient of meals when William was in his last few months that it was a HUGE blessing. You don’t need to be a gourmet chef, even a simple meal is always appreciated!

You would need to be a CBC member family to participate, and if you are interested or want more info, please contact Patty Cove at 843-694-4329 (please leave a message) or covefamily@yahoo.com

Thanks-Claudia
