Brigance Testing INFO SESSIONS

On Tuesday, June 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the café, and again at The CBCCA Book Blast on June 13th from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Tracey Holmes and Sharon Strever will be on hand to discuss the Brigance Test. This is especially geared toward struggling or non-traditional learners and is a great alternative to assess students’ abilities and can help provide for clarity in discerning curriculum choices, goal setting, and school year planning. This test will be offered by CBCCA on a case by case basis in lieu of PASS or SAT tests.

Yard Help Needed

I need some help at my house whenever it is convenient for someone. I need to have brush and yard waste removed from the side and back of my house. I need someone with a trailer who could take it to the dump or I understand there is a landfill close to my house that will take yard waste for free. I can’t afford to pay much for this job but I could pay something or barter something……….babysitting for a date night maybe????

 2014 Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra -Youth Concerto Competition Prize Winners

Since 2000, the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra has sponsored a Youth Concerto Competition. Its purpose is to provide talented young musician the opportunity to perform standard orchestral repertoire from memory before an audience.

2015 HHSO Youth Concerto Competition Guidelines
 
      Eligibility Musicians who play orchestral instruments (excluding piano), age 18 or younger who have not graduated high school are eligible. Previous prize winners, who have or are scheduled to solo with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, are not eligible.  MUSICIANS MUST RESIDE PERMANENTLY IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING STATES:  AL, FL, GA, KY, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA.
 
     Audition Piece The selection must be a single movement of a recognized solo (single instrument only) with orchestral accompaniment (not an arrangement, transcription or student work), even if not properly titled ‘concerto,’ and it must be a work for which score and parts are currently available. It MUST be a minimum of 6 minutes and a maximum of 14 minutes in length with the competitor performing the preponderance of the time. The selection may be edited to meet the time limit. The competition reserves the right to require cuts to fit available time for the finals.
 
Applications  Contestants are required to register on line and submit a complete application package electronically by October 31, 2014.

Judges The panel will consist of HHSO Concertmaster, Terry Moore, and two other professional musicians.

Prizes* 

First Prize $1200 and a solo performance**with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra
Second Prize $700 and a recital weekend in Hilton Head
Third Prize $500 and a recital weekend in Hilton Head
Finalist All other finalists will receive a $200 honorable mention award & possible performance opportunities. 
*Any or all of the prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Judges.
**Repertoire, dates, and times of the solo performances will be at the discretion of the HHSO Music Director.
Finalists 
Finalists will be selected by a blind screening of the submitted CD. All applicants will be notified of the finalist selection via email by December 1, 2014. Non finalist may request a written evaluation. All finalists will perform the selection submitted in their application, with their own accompanist on Saturday, January 31, 2015. We are going to miss coming to beautiful Beaufort this year. We so look forward to your convention. We are praying for Charlotte Cushman’s and Joyce Glover’s families  and hope your CHEC conference will resume in the future.
We did want to let you know, however, that we’ll be in Charleston at the Low Country Homeschool Conference this coming weekend (May 30-31) and are hoping to see you there!

Transcript Class

Have you ever felt like transcripts were too complicated to ever understand?
Do you find your planners in a disarray at the end of the school year?
What if I could show you how to create your own transcript in Excel?
What if I could show you a way to setup a planner that would contain your summary information and automatically calculate your grades and cumulative averages for you?
What if I could show you what all those strange formulas in Excel really mean and how to use those formulas?
I would like the opportunity to teach you what I know about Excel, and how it can make recordkeeping quick and efficient.
I will be holding a class on Wednesday, June 4, from 3-5pm.  It will be located in Rm. 115 of the main bldg. at the CBC Beaufort campus.
There will be no cost for this class, its free!!!  I just ask that you bring an open mind and a willingness to learn something new!!
It is not necessary to bring a laptop.  I will provide handouts which will detail the formulas covered in the session.

VBS T-SHIRTS
