FYI When shopping at Publix & Target Magazine Placement

FYI When shopping at Publix & Target

From Christine F. –

I just had a sad experience at Publix –  but was the exact same experience I had at Target over a month ago. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Anniversary Edition is being sold right beside the candy at the checkout counter. Although I know we can not keep our kids out of the world I was shocked with the placement of the extremely provocative magazine.

I asked the manager in Target if she thought it was ok and she said it was something you would “see at the beach”. I don’t know about you but I don’t see thong bathing suits at the beach.

I just thought I would pass this on because it really caught me off guard and I would hate for it to do the same to others. Although I don’t buy those magazines, I understand businesses have the right to sell their products I think the placement was a poor judgement call, whoever made the decision, and will be praying for everyone who will be affected as a result.

Book Blast Coming June 13th

BOOK Blast

The Book Blast is a non-profit, volunteer used curriculum sale held at Community Bible Church in Beaufort, SC. You do not need to be a member of Community Bible Church or of CBCCA in order to be a Book Blast participant. It is free to participate, but you must register.  If you wish to sell, there is a $5 fee.

The Book Blast will run on Friday, June 13, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.

How do I become a seller?

After you register for the conference you can click here to register as a seller.  You are not required to register to start entering your items online, but you will not be an official seller until you have registered for the Book Blast.

The last day for people to enter items into the Book Blast system is Tuesday, June 10th at midnight.

What can I sell at the Book Blast?

Our focus is on curriculum.  In addition, readers of all kinds, manipulatives, science stuff and educational supplemental materials.  Bibles, devotionals and educational aids are also welcome.

Please keep in mind this is not a yard sale, but a place to sell the kind of things YOU will be looking for to use in your own homeschool next year.

Our mission is to encourage all homeschoolers, but keep in mind we are a Christian homeschooling group.  We will not be able to sell items that conflict with our Christian values.  Please use discretion.

What are the selling instructions?

After you are registered as a seller, books and materials must be properly labeled.  We have two methods for labeling items:

Bar Coding Labeling

This system enables sellers to easily track sales.  It also streamlines the sale for buyers and sellers.  Added bonus?  You will get your money back much more quickly!

CHEC Book Blast Instructions 2014

Manual Labeling

You may also manually label your books.  There is an additional 10% processing fee for using the manual system.

Click here for Manual Labeling Instructions

When do I drop off my books?

Thursday, June 12 from 1:00 – 7:00 pm, at the start of the Intro to Homeschooling Seminar.

Where do I drop off my books?

You must use the SIDE ENTRANCE of the CBC Children’s Building.  (The doors under the awning.)  We will have signs directing you.

Do not enter through the front entrance, back of the building or the Atrium.

What do I need to bring with me to the book drop off?

  • Properly labeled books.
  • If you are bar-coding – your inventory list.
  • You should be already registered for the book blast 2014.  If you are not registered, you will need to fill out a registration form.
  • $5.00 seller fee.
  • Self-Addressed, stamped envelope so that we can mail you your check.

What happens to my books after the sale?

Please plan to pick up your unsold books after the sale between 4:00 – 6:00 pm.

We have no place to store unsold books.  Make arrangements with a friend or come yourself to get your unsold books.  It will be your responsibility to check and see if you have books left over.

Items not picked up by Friday, June 13th at 6:00 pm will be donated.

What if I have stuff I want to give away?

We will have an area for free items in a separate room.  You may leave free items in the designated spot at the registration desk.  Please separate your free items from items your selling and clearly label them FREE.

What if I have more questions?

Could you help with a meal for two?

Our friend just had foot surgery and is having a hard time getting around. Could you help with a meal as she recovers?

There is just the two of them Scott and Mary Savage (Scott was Zachariah’s football coach when he played PALS!) and they are new members of CBC and are not yet members of a Sunday School class.

They are not picky eaters and the only thing they would prefer not to get is veal or eggplant:)

I have signed up for tomorrow – but if anyone could bring them a meal Friday or Mon, Wed or Friday next week… it would be SO appreciated!

Thank you for blessing them!

Donations for Connie Maxwell Home

From Amy Fitzgerald –

For a second year in a row, we, as a family, are unable to attend the Crossroads trip with the boys and we would like to help in some way.  connie maxwell home

After searching the website for the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home I had an idea how those of us here at home could still do our part as our teenagers serve the home this weekend.  I found a list of needed weekly items and thought as a group we could find some of these items around our homes or during a quick trip to Wal-Mart to donate when our children go there this weekend.

I will be collecting the items this week or  you may simply bring them to the Friday departure (3pm at CBC).  I know this is short notice, but I think our gifts could still be a blessing to those at the Connie Maxwell Home.

If each family could donate even one or two items from this list, it would be quite a blessing.  If you will not be there on Friday to drop off, I will be at church Tues-Wed for Stanford testing, church on Wednesda y night, and at the drop off for the trip on Friday.  Thank you in advance for your help.

I have attached a list of the weekly items they need the most: http://www.conniemaxwell.com/Helping/Groceries/2013grocerylistgeneralr.pdf
