Kids Life Crafts Field Trip December 4th

From Kristie Schubert –

To Kids Life Crafts Parents:

So far this year, we have learned about Canada, Scotland, Russia and China. We are learning facts, geographical information and making crafts. The crafts we have been making lately are ornaments for the Festival of Trees. Our theme this year is “For God So Loved the World.”

I have scheduled a field trip for anyone who would like to view our tree. The location is at Tabby Place on Port Republic Street at 10 am on Friday December 4th. Admission is $3 for Adults and $1 for children.

This year’s festival also includes shops, Santa and a Snow Day on Sunday December 6th. A full schedule is here: https://www.facebook.com/FestivalofTreesBeaufort/photos/a.161043790573275.38525.135934063084248/1101916136486031/?type=3&theater

All proceeds go to benefit Friends of Carolina Hospice. The ornaments for our tree were made by the children in our “Crafts around the World” classes during Woman’s Life.

Please call me at 843-592-0528 if you have any questions regarding the field trip December 4th.

Thank you,

Kristie Schubert.

South Carolina’s Constitutional Convention Lecture Thursday Nov 5th at 6 pm

“SC’S CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION OF 1865” with Dave Smoot

Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 6:00 pm

Beaufort District Collection, 2nd floor, 311 Scott Street, Beaufort

The Civil War was over. The Union had won. After 4 long years of war, what would the peace look like? Would Reconstruction be a preservation of the old, or a remaking of the new? Answers to this very important question varied throughout all the former Confederate state conventions as they prepared to re-join the United States. All the eyes of the nation were on South Carolina – which in the eyes of the victors had started the whole fracas. What would South Carolina’s new state Constitution say? Would it be accepted? Would it allow the state to re-enter the Union? The Convention was lively to say the least. Half the delegates said that “The war is over. Let us move on.” The other half said, “No way!” What did the representatives of Beaufort District say? Come learn about the state Constitution in force from September 1865 to mid-April 1868 with Dave Smoot.

Smoot has been doing history for most of his life. Currently he is employed by Parris Island Museum. He enjoys portraying a Civil War Surgeon in living history programs and is a former director of a Virginia living history museum.

wedding artSusan Brant and Stephanie Fowler are hosting a bridal shower for Brittany Sutton (she is engaged to my son Zachariah) next Saturday the 31st at 10:00 am in the Fellowship Hall at CBC.

I was supposed to get it into the bulletin so that all the ladies at church would know that they were invited to come, but I dropped the ball and did not submit it in enough time.

Please forgive me! Here is the invitation:

Hosts needed for “Meals with a Missionary”

From Barbara Paul –

Be a part of world missions! Host a meal for missionaries coming to CBC for the World Missions Conference!

People should contact me at 843-645-2353. Meal hosts need to invite some friends/ neighbors to their home to share a meal with a missionary and then hear about the missionary’s work and country. It can be geared for all ages. It is suggested that the meal be a potluck dinner.

Guidelines for Hosts

Meals with a Missionary

Purpose: Provide a meal and a time for missionaries to share his/her story in a small group setting, either at the table or after the meal

Date: Thursday, Oct 1, 2015

Time: 6 PM – 8:30 PM

Place: Homes of CBC members, hopefully at the same location where the missionary is staying

Who is invited? Missionary (and their translator), and friends and neighbors of host family, ABF groups, missionary’s host family.

Who does the inviting? The host/hostess

What kind of meal should be served? Potluck dinner is encouraged, thus sharing the work

What kind of food should be served? Chicken and rice seem to be a staple all over the world. The fellowship counts more than the food!

How many guests should you invite? Meal hosts may decide upon the exact  number of guests, however, 10-12 guests is the desirable size; invite more guests than desired so that enough will actually be present for the meal; several families together may be host for the meal; or a supporting ABF may be a host for the meal

Who is responsible for transportation of the missionary? Meal hosts may be responsible for transporting missionaries/translators  to and from their host homes, or  for giving directions to their home

What is the evening program?  After a short introduction of the missionary by the host, the missionary should speak about his work, his family, his country. The evening program should end about 8:30/9 PM, so that the missionary can get ready for the Friday events. The missionary should share about 30-45 minutes and allow some time for questions and answers.

Any questions?  Call Barbara Paul at 843-645-2353 or Joyce Woodard at 843-706-2941
